Tajweed Class FAQ


Who should take this course?

The course is designed for people who can already read the Qur’an but are not familiar with the rules of tajweed, and for people who would like to review tajweed rules in a structured way. This course will hopefully to aid participants to understand recitation rules and able to read better. 


What will be covered in this course?

Courses are mostly theory explaining the recitation rules. As for the practical, it consists of giving many examples from the Qur'an throughout the course explaining how to apply the rules when reciting the Qur'an and choosing students randomly to have a chance to recite.


Are there prerequisites or language requirements?

This course will be delivered in English so you do not need to understand the Arabic language. Participants must be able to distinguish and join the Arabic letters and read the Qur'an at a basic level regardless of tajweed knowledge.


I can't read Arabic nor Quran, can I still join the course?

You might be struggling to follow this course. If you want to learn how to read the Qur'an, please contact us for more information.


Is this an online course or a face to face course?

We will have both face to face and online via Zoom. If the situation does not permit us to do face to face course, we will do online only. Face to face is limited up to 20 people. All recordings and material will be shared to participants.


How do I register?

What are the cost for this course?

This course is totally free


How long is the course?

Approximately 10 sessions based on our experience delivering the same course. Each session approximately 45-60 mins in theory and followed by practice.


Do I need to buy textbooks?

All the materials are included in the course. Instructors may provide recommended and suggested texts for further exploration.


Do I need to memorise the text?

Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl has 61 verses. Memorising them is not mandatory but encouraged. If you are interested to obtain a written certificate (ijazah), the certificate is only awarded to participants who have completed the course, passed the final exam and memorised the text. Do you have a short bio of the course instructor?

The course instructor Insha Allah will be Brother Bayu Wibowo. He has multiple teachers in Qur'an and has received sanad and ijazahs such as the Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl, Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah, Sahih al-Bukhari, 40 hadeeth al-Nawawiy, multiple musalsalat hadeeth, to name a few. Some of his teachers in Qur'an:

  • Shaykh al-Muqri Yunus al-Ghalbān al-Misri - received sanad and ijazah for Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl, Muqaddimah al-Jazariyyah, Mandhoomah al-Shāṭibiyyah. Shaykh Yunus al-Ghalbān is one of only two people left in the world with short chains on these tajweed texts.

  • Ustadh Donny Abdullah Achmadi: studying tajweed and Qur'an by him.

  • Ustadh Abu 'Ezra Muhammad Laili al-Fadhli (https://www.youtube.com/c/AlFadhli) — attended multiple workshops on tajweed conducted by the Ustadh, heard (sama') and read the Tuḥfat al-Aṭfāl from memory to him, received sanad and ijazah Qasrul Munfasil and Qasīdat Abī Muzāhim al-Khāqānī. Ustadh Abu 'Ezra holds ijazah in Qira'at Hafs via tariq Shatibiyyah for both reciting and teaching the Qur'an.

  • Shaykh Abu Hibban Herry Setiawan (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ULPElu3g68sLEbMbiCq5giObovL5z0R-/view): studying tajweed and reading the narration of Hafs tariq of Shatibiyyah by him. Shaykh Abu Hibban has multiple Qur'an ijazah/sanad of Hafs, Shu'bah, Ashra Sugra (10 qira'at) both reciting and teaching the Qur'an. Shaykh Abu Hibban received his ijazah from Shaykh Misbah bin Ibrahim - one of the highest Qur'an chain/sanad in the world.

  • Ustadh Ganjar Abu Muhammad: studied makharijul huruf and Jazariy by him. Currently reading the narration of Hafs tariq of Shatibiyyah to him. Ustadh Ganjar is a student of Shaykh Dr. Abdul Karim al-Jazairy - holds ijazah in Qira'at Ashr As-Sughra for both reciting and teaching the Qur'an.

  • Ustadh Abu Azam Khairil Ansori (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c-OegA6bMJJJGJt9e5saWnDIxDISeVn5/view): read a portion of the Qur’an to him in the narration of Hafs. Ustadh Abu Azam holds ijazah in Qira'at Hafs tariq of Shatibiyyah for both reciting and teaching the Qur'an.
